g'day
I'm rapt to have found birdphotographers and have already been inspired by many breathtaking images. I've been a birder forever and last year I finally bought a camera that wouldn't fit in the back pocket of my jeans. I had my appendix out a couple of weeks ago and the surgeon said my camera gear was too heavy -he didn't know about monopods! I'm addicted, I love it, and I've smiled at every photo I've seen here of someone following their bliss.
Happy birding, Kim
PS I have a bird photography blog at www.lirralirra.com

Welcome to BPN, Kim. Glad you're feeling better after your surgery. I see you are photographing Tawnys. I hope you'll post one in the Eager to Learn or Avian forum for our viewing. Looking forward to your contributions from Down Under.

Thank you Christopher, Daniel and Marina. I'd like to post something in the Eager to Learn forum Marina but it's saying I 'may not post attachments' - I guess I'm eager to learn how to do that too :)

Kim, the reason it's saying that is because only paying members can use BPN's hosting service. What you can do is host your photo on another site, like say Flickr, and then "insert image" to post it. You can find full instructions on how to post here: http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...m-Time-to-Time. Hope this helps, and if you have any other questions just ask.

G'day to you too Kim, welcome and curious as to which part of Oz you live in, looking forward to seeing your imagery mate

Hi Phil, I'm in Victoria. I used to live in SA, loved it there! I've just been looking at the ausee flickr link ... awesome images

Hi Kim! I'm pretty new here too...awesome community! I was fortunate enough to visit Oz some years ago... awesome there too! Welcome!

Hi Sandy, I'm glad you enjoyed your trip down-under. When I first met my Canadian partner he told me about loons calling from misty lakes, he did a pretty good impression but the call and name were so unlikely that I didn't believe him! I still haven't seen any but would love to - your avatar is exquisite.

Hi Kim
Welcome aboard..! I am an Expat kiwi living in Perth and you will find this site very informative..

Hi Don, thanks for the welcome. I'm looking forward to getting to know my way around the site, at the moment I'm still fumbling. I tried to find your images but could only find your comments on other images (and lost this half-written, unposted message in the process of being so pleasantly side-tracked).

Hey Kim.... thanks for the compliment on my Avatar. I've gotten to know the Loons' calls pretty well over the years (even individuals)... haunting, loving little hootles within a family, but sometimes even scary! If I had a "spare", I'd send him your way... as long as you reciprocated with an equally cool Aussie bird! Will look forward to seeing your images!

Thanks Kim.
You can search for post by any person using the advanced search feature located on the RHS towards the top of this page... Its interesting to look back at what you use to do/post/think was good compared to your current thinking. I even have a tawny frogmouth posted...

Welcome to BPN! I'm looking forward to your further participation.

Sandy, amazing that you can tell individual calls! How about kookaburras to chuckle at the side of the lake? I can tell their individual laughs but only while the juveniles are learning the call.
-
Thanks for that Don, I'll look for your tawny ... mine were so high, the rascals. I found your tawny! Incredible posture and so lucky that you had your camera handy. I enjoyed looking at your other images too and especially enjoyed the Rainbow Bee-eaters and the Carnaby's Black Cockies.

Kookaburras are way "Kool"!

I tried to post an image in 'Eager to Learn' but didn't hit 'insert image' so there's an url but no image or thumbnail. I've tried to delete the post and start again or edit the post with no luck. After FAQs what's the best way to ask questions? I'm sure I shouldn't be doing it here I agree about kookas Sandy.

Welcome to BPN Kim! Looking forward to seeing your work! Enjoyed going through your blog - love that image of the tiny spotted pardalote! I use the same combo 7D + 100-400 :-)
-
Thank you Faraaz. I'm glad you like the pardalote image :) How long have you been using the 7D + 100-400?
-
Kim - I've been using that combo since about September 2011.

Hi Kim and welcome! Looks like you figured out how to get the image up. Looking forward to seeing more.
