I was at the refuge this morning trying out my new Mark IV and hoping to get some nice flight shots. On my way out, I spotted this juvie RT was sitting by the road preening so I took a couple of headshots. Certainly not the most exotic species but I liked how this came out.
Mark IV, 600mm (300 + 2x), f5.6, 1/1250. ISO 400
Standard processing stuff, curves, denoise, sharpening, removed a couple small twigs from the right side.
C&C welcome, I'm trying out a new post workflow so let me know what you think!

I really like the HA on this image .
Nice and sharp ( but would sharpen a tiny bit more) and the eye looks terrific.
I would add a bit more to the bottom as the tip of the beak is very close to the edge.
I would also take a sliver off the right.
I like the blues and greens in the BG and would clone out the branch intersecting with the head on the top and right.
I agree with a boost in saturation but not as much as Satish did.
It would be great to see the original so we could get some better ideas re: the crop,

Steve, I think Gail nailed the critique. It's a very nicely composed image, but a bit more room down the bottom would be great. I would like to see a version between the original post and the repost by Satish - with added sharpness, but not as much contrast.
Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I can't really add to the bottom due to a twig crossing the body that would be impossible to clone out cleanly. I decided on a tighter crop to change the comp and make it more intimate. I played with cutting out more on the right but I think this is the right amount to preserve balance.
