Default Black Crowned Night Heron In Flight

Another shot from Venice Rookery earlier this week. For those of you familiar with the layout of the rookery, I sat myself down on the bank about three feet above the water to the left of the nesting island. There were lots of birds flying to and from the island in search of nesting material. The night herons were nesting at the back of the island about 3-4 feet above the waterline. This little guy entertained us for about an hour making repeated trips for branches.

    Mark:
Beautiful flight pose you have captured.I like the sharpness on near wing, nice HA,red eye and nesting material in the beak.
Very well done.Would crop little bit at the bottom.

    Regards,
    Satish.

    Hi Mark,
Excellent IQ and lovely light. Tack sharp.
How fortunate that the branches did not intersect with the eye ( always seems to happen to me!)
I really like the greens at the top of the frame.
I do wish for a nicer wing position but that is a minor nit because you still have a bit of a dorsal view.
    A really nice shot,
    Gail

A very great shot Mark. Great light, wonderful exposure, nice details. I hope to see some more from this series - maybe a head on view?!

Hi Mark, well exposed and sharp, with a good eye. A good behavioural image showing him going about house building. As he seemed to be busy for a while, and maybe you have it already, but I would have taken the shots a few seconds earlier to have him still flying into the frame.

Thanks all for the constructive comments. Stuart....I'm not sure if this one is from the same flight series or not but it is the same bird from a more heads on angle.
