I wish she had turned just a little more toward me but I like the low pose overall.

Hi Joel. I personally like the subdued hues of the female more than the gaudy males. I like the charcoal gray background, exposure, and feather detail. I think it would have been better if the entire bird was turned (tail behind perch). Since you have a backyard set up I'd imagine you'll have plenty of opportunities! regards~Bill

Yes, a bit more of a turn would help, but still a nice image. Nice feather detail too. I would prefer a different background, as this shade of gray isn't working for me personally. Since this is a backyard set up, maybe move the perch to and area with some greenery (maybe not available though in your area right now though). Nice capture of the female!

Hi Joel, I agree that the females of most bird species are sorely underrepresented for the most part. I love the colors and markings of this one. I agree that the angles of the perch and subject feel a bit awkward. I would suggest a curves adjustment to bring up the overall level of the image, as the brightest pixels are no higher than about 200.

    Joel,

First, great to have you back posting in ETL,..missed your work. As I have stated many times you always show birds at there best, focusing on the beauty of these creatures. I like this as posted, a bit different composition; would only clone out the bit of perch in LRHC - well done. Keep em coming buddy!
