One is you have the duck in the reflection (pier?), so that
keeps the duck from getting lost in the surrounding darkness.
Second, I know we get use to seeing subjects up close, but I
like this perspective...the small duck surrounded by the larger
environment.
My suggestion would be to try and crop off the left part of the image
where that light reflection is. So then all you have left is the dark
water and the one reflection with Bufflehead.
Sandy...here's what I had in mind. I did crop some off the bottom. But I'm not sure
which I like better, crop at the bottom or no crop at the bottom. I also checked your
whites, they're at 250, so you didn't blow those out, which is another plus.
I like the left crop in the repost, but I think the bottom part of the image should be retained, as in the original post. It provides greater depth to the image and the reflection itself is interesting (and does not detract from the duck, IMO.)
Thanks for your critique, everyone there is just something about this photo, that caught my attention!
If the bufflehead was a little to left or the right, and he would have been lost in the darkness.Definitely
agree with the left crop ,but i have too agree with Wendy ,i personally like either no bottom crop or very
little.Thanks once again, great eyes!!
Here's another crop for you to consider Sandy with the duck just in the lower right "rule of thirds" point. I too like the duck placed in the reflected light.
Jeanann's repost is perfect.
I really like the "small in the frame" feeling of this.
It is great that you were still able to capture the iridescence on the feathers despite the distance.
Well done,
Gail
