    Default La Jolla Pelican

La Jolla is a spot in San Diego California that Brown Pelicans congregate during the early breeding season. This shot was taken on New Years day 2013. There were many males at different phases of plumage and it was interesting seeing how they developed into the fully colored male. I have many full body shots but decided to try something different. Hope you like it.

Thanks as always for looking and for your input. Appreciated.

Hi David, love the show of all the colours on the head and bill, and I do like what you have done here. Killer blues in the BG. I feel to put this over the top, showing the end of the bill will work better.

I like the unconventional comp and I'll go the opposite way of Stuart and say you could have cropped even more from the top! Excellent colours, beautiful details. Good job!

Lovely plumage and great creative thinking here. I'd go for a pano crop here. Very nice.

Beautiful colors, and a good idea for something different. Works OK for me as posted, but I do find myself either wanting to see the bill tip (which would be a different image altogether), or a little less bill per Daniel's suggestion. Details and exposure are superbly executed.

I think this is wicked cool and artistic, David. I love the abstract quality, the colors, and the way you cropped it. I could see more of a pano crop as well too, but also great as is. Nice vision.

Thanks very much for the comments everyone.
Daniel and Lorant, Im glad you guys mentioned taking some off the top for more of a pano because I liked that version better and wondered if it would be to much or not so I posted the original version . I did some with the whole bill showing but as Bill mentioned, thats a whole different image and it didnt have the same impact.
    Thanks for the help.

Really like the uncoventional presentation. Coupled with the good techs and bg, makes for a great image.

Excellent out of the box crop. Interestingly as I played moving the image up, I had the same idea as Daniel; to crop more from the top. Your repost works well, David.
