    Default Ñacunda nighthawk (Podager nacunda)

A while back I posted another photo one of these. This time I cropped a little tighter.
    Shot with Nikon D200, AI Nikkor 400mm f/3.5, 1/2500, f/8, ISO 800, handholded.

With the poor light angle the underwings are much too dark. Flash at 1:1 with a Better Beamer often helps reveal the beautiful underwing detail in these situations. Very sharp with nice wing positions and COMP.

I like the lookback pose and agree that the underside of the wings look quite dark. Did you dial in positive exposure compensation?

    Thanks for the comments!
Axel, this birds like to stay in the ground during the day, and I was walking towards a spot to photograph another birds, absolutely unprepared, when some 30 of these started to fly a few meters from where I was. I had +2 compensation, but nit wasn't enough. This was as much detail I could get from the wings without raising too much noise. Hope to get a chance of photographing these gusy again and get it better
Artie, I'll get a Better Beamer, thanks for the tip :-)
