Default Great Gray Owl in Mid-Air Ready to Pounce on the Prey

This is the fourth of the nine GGOw's encountered that day at north of our city. It was somewhat cooperative and was interested in our bait, but didn't take it. I used a zoom lens with a shorter focal length so that I can include more of the environment while the owl is in flight.

    Canon EOS 5D2 | Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS @ 200mm
    Manual mode, 1/1000 sec., f/7.1, ISO 800

    All C&Cs welcome!

    Thanks,
    Raymond

Good thinking to go with the 70-200. I like what you have done with with your composition here and where you placed the GOOD in the frame. Your image tells a good story!

The motion in the wings is a great add to this sweet image. Love the eye contact.

Great image overall. I wonder if you need the bottom starting at the tree level? Wondering if the IQ can take a tighter crop. Well done with good light and good eye contact.

Nice high keyeffect and pose. I like the included vegetation. I only wish the tail feathers were all cmpletely showing even on both sides

Nice head on flight shot, Raymund. I like the eye contact and the dangling feet.

The trees might not do much, but I prefer to show some perspective where the owl is in mid-air. That's my purpose using a 70-200 lens.

My next post will show that, but then the wings are not as good as this one. Shooting BIF with 5D2 with a slow frame rate is slightly tougher than I thought.

Great separation from the BG, Raymond. I like the vertical crop. Fine job.
