    Avian Great Spotted Cuckoo

I was out walking in the Montado today and was happy to find this Cuckoo!
I heard its weird calls and initially thought it was a raptor; I was able to get a few reasonable frames, but after researching
doesnt seem to be well represented, and from what I can tell probably a first on here.
    f6.3 1/1000 hh ISO 640 MF on the 100-400, 7D

Later It became apparent this is a visiting pair, lets hope the killer frame is waiting tomorrow!
    Very soft, large crop

Hey Richard, hope you can get the killer frame tomorrow. Hopefully you know where to go and will be prepared. Your self-assessment is spot on.

The large crop has hurt but I would take it for a record shot. I do not think I have seen this bird before.

Always exciting to spot a "rarity". Neat the way it is perched along the branch. I agree with your assessment of the image, plus it looks like it needs CCW rotation...
