Setup in the backyard. This one perched on a horizontal twig which is a little different. It reveals the "red belly" nicely.

Beauty of a bird and shot! Love that eye color and very nice details and exposure. I'd be happy to call that mine. :)

What a great job you did on this WP, Joel. The exposure looks spot on and the details and sharpening look great. Nice head turn, perch and BG. What's not to like. If it were mine, I would consider a little more off of the top and right, and a sliver from the left to make it more of a true vertical. It's amazing how well that 1DX handles noise. :)

Another one that should be in the Avian forum.
    Terrific IQ and pose.
The angle is a bit steep for a set up.
    I would lower the perch.

Lovely textured perch, beautiful blurred BG and a pin sharp subject make this a terrific photo.

Lovely RBW... Agree with Marina on a possible crop. Details are superb over the entire bird.... Super clean background..... Sweet!

    Joel,

Great light and natural photo, I am there! Might take a layer off the top or expand all around - nice post - strong image my friend!

Fantastic detail too, the metering off the sky is cleaver and the 1+ stops looks spot on. Nice field technique to use the light zone or sky to get a solid reading.

Loi's comments are great too, the belly (as everyone knows) is where the name comes from - nice subject placement, really like this one.

Nice one Joel, great perch, fine detail is extra good, eye contact is great and such a clear eye as well, liking as well how you captured his tail patterns.....my only thought would be it could do with a tad more brightness as it l;looks just a little flat as is
