Northern Down South: An Introduction
Thought I'd go ahead and post an introduction of sorts. While I grew up in Ohio and spent the last 14 years in Illinois, my "day job" moved me to the Sun Coast of Florida. In Illinois, I owned a fairly successful youth sports photography business on the side, which got to the point where I was keeping it from growing as it was getting too big to have as a side gig. Upon the "opportunity" to move to Florida (some say I had a choice, others know better), I had to sell my business to a photographer that worked for me and who can take the business to the level it can go.
I always took my photography gear with me on family vacations, and have amassed many landscape and wildlife photos that now hang on our walls. So, now I end up in Florida, and happen to buy my home just outside Venice, in which I find out that I live very close to some prime bird photography sites (the Rookery just a few miles away, Ding Darling just a short drive, and others). With my newly freed-up weekends, I now have something to do and a way to put the camera gear I kept to work! Now I just have to figure out what these birds ARE that I take photos of....
So, probably a little more in-depth than most care to do and most care about, but I figured those who read will understand my posts better.
Or not.

I recognize that name and it's nice to read a little about your history, John. Thanks for sharing. I came to Florida from New England and have never looked back although I visit from time to time. I think you are going to find yourself immersed in nature photography in no time. Looking forward to meeting you. It's bound too happen soon since we live fairly close to one another.

Story sounds kind of familiar. I photographed sports and owned a business back in Illinois. I sold the business and moved to just outside Venice and started photographing wildlife. Darn, I thought I was unique in that maneuver . *-) Have you been to the Venice jetty to photograph the birds ? Can provide some good opps. I shoot their and the beaches regularly. Probably run into you one of these days out and about in town.

John,
Welcome to BPN and Florida.
I'm not an import from the north (aka Yankee) I'm a home grown Florida Cracker.

Thank you. Christopher. I hope to take advantage of my location and contribute somewhat regularly.
And Marina, I appreciate your comments from my other post as well. I'm sure we'll run into each other and probably not know it the first time!
Mike, we'll have to talk shop sometime; curious as to what sports you photographed back in Illinois. We'll compare notes.
And James, thank you for the welcome and this wonderful forum. As soon as things get a little more calm at work, I hope to contribute more and join.

Hi John... welcome from "Northern Lower Michigan" (just like "northern down South... but different...) Sounds like you are in a wonderful bird photography area year-round now!
