This was another image I shot at a local nature center. This guy was waiting on the tree as others were feeding in the feeders they had set up. He was pretty close and this is full frame. Canon EOS MDMK4, 600mm, ISO 1600, f/5.6, SS 1/1000.

Very pretty image, Nick. Classic pose and you've composed this perfectly. Love the bg, exposure and details. Excellent work.
Not seen in my neck of the woods. There was an Audubon rare bird alert for these in a park close by. I spent a couple hours this morning birding there, but never found them unfortunately.

    Hi Nick,
It is always nice to have "the classic" nuthatch pose in one's portfolio.
Nothing wrong with your techs. Tack sharp.
The bird is a bit big in the frame for my taste. I would crop 5% from the RHS and add 10% to the top to make it more of a vertical.
BG is as smooth as can be! Very nice,
    Gail

    Nick:

A perfect display of their distinctive perching style. Like the grip displayed and the raised head. Nicely exposed.

The crop works OK for me, because the lines of the bird are so strong, but I can see Gail's suggested crop as well.

    Cheers

Terrific image. Love the pose. Great IQ. Love the perch and those claws. While I like this crop, I would consider checking out Gail's suggestion to see which you prefer.

I also think it could go smaller in the frame, but nice pose and nice sharp detail.

The crop looks fine to me too Nick, and I love the BG color and tonality. Great sharpness and good light. White-breasted nuthatches are common here in SW Ohio, didn't know they were scarce elsewhere. I'll check that out. TFP!

Very nice Nick. Exposure and details look great and I love the classic pose. I had a chance to see and photograph these cool little birds in NY and really like them as a subject. Well done

Hi Nick, I really like how the nuthatch is posed with the head and neck in a perfect horizontal line. Well positioned to get him against that lovely clean and smooth BG too.

Perfectly posed and focused bird and nice combination of texture and smooth between the tree and the background. I 'm good with the crop.
