    Default Anhinga In Flight

From Venice Rookery last week. Flying in low from behind the island and to the left of the main viewing area. Calling to its mate. I would have preferred a few more degrees CW rotation of the head.

Very nice image. It would have been a tad better if she had been captured a split second earlier (she has flown past you a bit), and that would have taken care of the HA, but other than that the techs are spot on. Good job! regards~Bill

Love the open mouth! Nice catch. You already addressed the head angle, but I still like it. :)

Hi Mark, The problem here has not so much to do with head angle as with the fact that the bird is angling away from you. Either parallel or angling a bit towards you would be much better. The other problem is the merge of the neck with the far shoreline.

Sharpness and exposure are good and those are the basics to build upon.

Thanks Artie. You are exactly right. I was standing next to a clump of bushes and shooting towards the rear of the nesting island at Venice Rookery, tracking birds as they returned to their mates with nesting material. I had to be mindful of the housing in the distant background and picked this anhinga later than I should have. By the time I tripped the shutter, the subject had already passed me by and was flying slightly off parallel and away from my position.
