A juvenile Golden Whistler who has not yet achieved his full coloring, this one surprised me by coming down quite close and checked me out for quite a while, before flying off, catching a rather large caterpillar and returning to eat it in front of me.....I declined his offer to share

Canon 7D + 500 f4.....f5, 1/200 ISO 500 + 0.7ev, flash fired, tripod mounted from within a temporary bird hide..........basic edit with selective sharpen, curves adjust, noise eduction to backdrop

Love the sharpness and fine feather details, Phil. Nice background as well. It is a nice looking bird with beautiful eyes.

    Phil:

Excellent eye, colors of bird/background. For my personal taste the sharpening is just a bit overdone, looking a bit crunchy in some areas.

Nice that he was so friendly!

    Cheers

Nice perch and BG, great pose, and cool looking bird. Agree it may be a bit over sharpened but very nice overall image!

Wonderful pose, colors, and perch, Phil. I agree that backening off the sharpening a bit would make this pretty much perfect.

I like the sharpness and feather detail. Dose not look crunchy on my monitor, just sharp. Exposed well and great color, even though he's not fully mature. Well done Phil.

Hi Phil, love the inquisitive pose with the angled head, well placed in the frame, and I really like how the yellows and greys of the bird blend together. The complementary BG works well with the bird. Another vote for reducing the sharpening.

I agree with the others about the sharpening otherwise this is great. I love that red eye, the BG, and the perch. Plenty of detail on the bird.

Hi Phil - nice pose, perch and pleasing bg all combine for an excellent detailed image. I too agree on backing off the sharpening a bit.

Another vote for leaving the sharpening "as is" . . . pretty rude to refuse to share dinner . . .

Thanks all, I am agreeing this looks a bit over sharpened, I am having difficulty with that aspect atm. This particular image had a very small amount of sharpening applied, much less than I would normally do. I did three versions of this image with my usual amount of sharpening applied but all looked well over done so chose this one to post....but yes it still looks slightly over sharp.I'm beginning to think it may of been fine straight out of camera.
