Here's another shot from my recent travels. Although it was a sunny afternoon (shot at 12:25pm), I was fortunate to get a few periods of passing clouds, during which the light as not too bad. I crawled on the ground approaching the bird and stayed low enough to get the clear background I was after. I wanted to minimize the blurred blades of grass in the foreground, but shooting higher would ruin the background, so this image is the compromise I settled on. The white splotches in the left foreground are flowers.
Image was captured with a Canon 1D Mark II N, Canon 300mm f2.8 IS lens with 1.4x extender, Av mode 1/160 sec at f9, exposure compensation at - 1 1/3 stops, hand-held with fill flash, ISO 100. Photo is from Brian Piccolo Park in Fort Lauderdale.
Sharp, good basic COMP, and nice eyes! The dark strip at the top and the single flower centered in front of the bird are problematic for me.

nice shot Tim.. i may have cloned out the flower up front, and I don't think the flash helped the image, i like the background and natural setting. I only have a short visit with these owls in Cape Corral, and it sure was a treat., wonderful birds.
