    Default Desert Drama in B&W

From Joshua Tree NP, an HDR monochrome image. I started with a regular color HDR image, then converted it to B&W, then did another HDR effect and an Orton effect. All done with Topaz filters, except the original HDR toning which was done in PS CS6.

Kerry, I really like the effect: it looks very mysterious and eerie.

You took good advantage of those clouds in both the original capture and post-processing. It makes a great black & white. Great composition, too.

I really like how the lone Joshua Tree on the left stands out and balances the clouds and rock formation on the right.

Hi Kerry- My eye is drawn immediately to the textures on the rocks, particularly at the right. Love it. This image reminds me that a trip to this country is a necessity!

Kerry, it's a perfect image for b&w. I particularly like the lone Joshua tree

Nice panoramic view of Joshua Tree showing the terrain, the barrenness, the vegetation, the fabulous rocks. I fear the compression of the image does not allow us to properly see the details. I wondered what is would look like with more dramatic clouds and brightening up the landscape to show the details to better advantage. Here is a quick try at it, just for fun. Thanks for sharing this image. It reminds me of a family trip we made to Joshua Tree many years ago.

A great landscape and with B&W you captured the essence of Joshua Tree NP in this composition. Excellent processing!
