Sorry I haven't been posting much - lots of things taking up my time recently. I had a chance to be a "volunteer" photographer at the annual "Hoggetowne Medieval Faire" in Gainesville last weekend. Mostly photojournalism stuff (I have never done that before) but I had to slip in one "artsy" image. This is full frame. I used OnOne Wow filter in Lightroom and then converted to black and white with Nik Silver Efex.

I really like this. Just enough of the elephant to give the power....speaks for itself. Even just showing part of the other leg is good....moves the animal onward. Nice.

Its a different view of an elephant, only thing I thought was "who is the poor guy that has to file those nails", I like the details, the the B & W effect and composition. TFS

This is also good photojournalism Cheryl! There's certainly no doubt about what the viewer is seeing, but it is conveyed with a very minimal amount of information. I like this a lot.

I really like the contrast in textures, and this works very well as a black & white. The darkness in the upper left is good, but I'd be inclined to extend the straw up there so the out-of-focus back foot (???) isn't distracting.

Very cool thinking! I really like those fuzzy little hairs on the legs and of course, those nails. B & W is perfect for this. I agree with Dennis that the dark thing in the upper left corner is distracting.

Cheryl: Good for you for trying something new--photojournalism. How was it for you?

I'm sorry to say that this image doesn't work for me. Perhaps if the foot to the right were all there and the foot to the left only partially there. I('m writing this post because I want to know when one of my images doesn't work for someone. It is easier to just not write a comment, but I don't find that helpful.)

Anita, thanks for your comments and I appreciate your input. Obviously if all you hear are good things you will never grow as a photographer. My thought was kind of the mystery of where the front foot was going and what was behind the middle whole foot Photojournalism is interesting - sometimes it's nice to not have a tripod and a bunch of gear to travel around with. I hand-held all day switching between the 70-200 and the 24-105 and was happy with what I got. I'm going back today for the final day to see what I can scare up.
