A mainly nocturnal heron here in Australia which is usually seen when flushed from cover and hard to get out into the open.

Good job capturing this elusive fellow. Agree with others about the interesting climbing pose. Like the texture of the perch, in a perfect world would wish to not have the little stick coming off, but not a sig. issue.

Not only did you get him out into the open, but you got him to pose like a model!

The only thing I might consider doing is enhancing the catchlight a tad. Otherwise, it goes straight to the portfolio!

Beautiful shot! I know how difficult it is with night herons - first off you have to find them, then avoid flushing them. Then deal with the horrible shade they're usually in. To get one out in the open like this (and posed so beautifully) is a once in a lifetime thing. Congrats on your excellent photo!

Hi Greg, love the pose with the right foot draped over the perch. I also like how the line of the body of the night heron follows the line of the perch. Great smooth BG, and if anything, maybe a touch more space below.

Nice pose Greg, beaut birds and one of the very first species I started photographing. Light and color looks great and like the diagonal perch matching the posture...I would be inclined to clone out that one side stick though, it doesn't look like it's meant to be part of the main branch
