No processing, this is not the best picture but from time to time practice framing the shot correctly in the field (field technique) where no or little cropping is needed.

    Jeff,

Great composition coming straight out of camera. I agree that practicing field technique will really help you get the most out of your images. Well done!

You did a great job of preserving the whites in this image, but I think you could have gone about half a stop more to get a bit more details in the shadows.

A little bit of noise reduction to background, some selective sharpening, and you're on your way to a great image - and it all started with the great field technique.

Jeff - lovely shot of this little guy. Great composition as well. Miguel has nailed all what I was going to say regarding noise/sharpening etc. And it does look like you could've exposed a bit more to the right to get more details without burning the whites. Still a great image!

    Jeff,

Greetings. There is always some processing ;-) but good framing for SoC... wish the light had been over your right shoulder rather than over your left. Nice detail in the whites... I think lighting direction would improve the blacks more than exposure.

    Cheers,

This was an exercise I had to do in a workshop with Jay Masiel years ago. It was hard but makes you think about the frame. You are seeing the world thru a view finder, master the discipline of the frame!

Lovely bird. Love that green in the BG. Would love to see a tad off of the right side. Would apply some NR on the BG and sharpening on the bird.

The point of this picture is to get folks thinking about better field techniques such as:
    1. Reduce large crops
    2. Balance the frame
    3. Clean background
    4. Get close and work the subject
    5. Control what goes in and is excluded from the four corners of your image

Thanks for viewing and work the field, light and subject first!
