I'm quite pleased with this shot, except for one thing - the bird is sitting on a white sign. I used Photoshop to remove the misc "junk" from the sign. Are there any suggestions of how I might de-emphasize or possibly remove it?

    Jerry,

Nice moment the light is wonderful, nice feather detail, great color, clean eye and muted background,.lots to like here. The first thing that comes to mind is the perch needs to be level,..a counter clockwise adjustment should do it. Pictures like this that include "hand of man" elements are alright,..they are what they are and the subject is well captured. Nice exposure tech too,.adjust the perch and off you go,..be interesting to see what others think as well.

Jeff, Good eye! I'm ashamed to admit that I'd already rotated the image by about 6.33° (4.83° makes it perfectly horizontal). That sign was in the ground "on the bias". Getting it perfect is, indeed, an improvement. Thanks for the nice comments.

    Jerry,

Jeff nailed it with all his comments, imo. I would have liked to have seen this guy on a natural perch, but I you did a great job with what you got!

I really like the gradient of light, bright on the chest and slightly darkening as you move toward the rump. This does a great job of keeping your eye on the face ... which is tack sharp. Nicely done!

Hi Jerry- I love the easy sharpness of this image. The eye is great! A better version of this image would have the bird's head rotated a little CW and towards you rather than away.

John, I concur about the rotation of the head. I discovered this little guy from my car w/ camera on a beanbag while exiting Bombay Hook NWR and actually got off about a dozen shots - some where the head was rotated, but unfortunately that put the head in shadow. My next move was to pull forward a few feet and try to get the sun more from my back. By that time he had flown off.

Alas, someday the stars will align. [sigh & grin]
