    Default PRAIRIE HOME

The subject is my paternal grandfathers birth place (1890). The door image submitted a few days ago is from this structure. This is my first attempt at B&W. Playing around with Nik's CEP4, I found solarization which produced a rather dramatic effect. A few minor adjustsments with selective curves a sharpening. C&C appreciated.

A very dramatic image, the sky is wild. Love the details in the house.

Solarization was perfect for this. I like the composition, and the opposing diagonals likely add a lot to the appeal. Very nice detail, contrast and tonal range. The character of the house is wonderful, too.

A very striking and dramatic image. When I first saw it I thought it was infrared, the solarization has worked very well for this image.

This is really nice, Gary. I love the darkened, almost foreboding sky. Beautiful detail on the homestead.

Really nice IR effect! Love the way the dark clouds roll past the brightly illuminated cabin. (would not have called that effect solarization, but it looks great).

Gary, you picked the perfect black and white application. I like everything about the image - it conveys a lot of drama as I'm sure there must have been out there on the prairie.

A perfect image for B&W, Gary. I like the dramatic sky, and the old house has so much character being all run-down. The only thing I find myself wanting is more room to the right since the house is kind of "facing" that direction. Very well done!

You succeeded in making this dramatic--with the falling down building and that dark sky. Excellent details. I like the various textures--the sod, the roof, the patches, the grass, the sky--each different. Your inclusion of the grass in the foreground helps produce the sense of depth. Well done.

I really like this kind of lighting that I have found only on the prairie, with the sky so dark and light still illuminating the ground. It is so dramatic and creates a perfect mood for this image. Your B&W conversion just adds more to the effect. Very well done!

I too love the lighting on the house and the dramatic sky. Excellent processing to bring out the contrasts, and a nice composition.
