I was about to pack up yesterday when I looked through the camera to see this beautiful guy staring back at me. I shot this with the 7D, 300 + 2XTC, ISO 400, 1/1250, f/9.0. Probably doesn't "conform" compositionally but I really liked his expression. C&C greatly appreciated.
Nice one, usually head-on shots do not work for me (thats me) but I like this one, the clean well lit eyes are compelling. Nice water droplets, good detail the opportunities are framing and subject placement. Notice there is a dark edge (shadow) on the bottom of the frame it catches my eye. The frame can be divided into three parts, foreground, subject and background and they need to pull together to make a picture balance. I would crop from the bottom edge and move the subject out of the center, maybe to the right (rule of thirds). On balance, nice clean, detailed picture of a beautiful species - keep em coning.
