It has been a little cold on Long Island lately. Even the gulls are feeling the effects.

Thanks for looking and for your comments. Appreciate them all.

Great light, separation from the BG and nice IQ.
I don't think I have ever seen anything like this.
    Ice clinging to a bird.
Superlatives probably get overused here, But this is awesome.

Wow, that's cold. Nicely captured. And I've been working in plus 40 deg C this last couple of weeks in Australia.

Gorgeous image of incoming gull.Looks like flying in the clouds.Great IQ.Beautiful lights and BG.
Ice crystals attached are giving real feel of freezing cold.
Love the details in whites, yellow eye and way gull pops up against blues and superb composition.

Hi Grace, now this really shows how cold your winter's are with ice visible on gulls. This is a first for me. I do like whites and exposure on the gull, sharp, and with a great eye. The BG with what I presume is ice below adds interest to the winter's tale.

    Grace:

I love both the tech. aspects, and the natural history, story telling component. The ice on the bird and in the BG, cool blues, tell the story very well.

Only thought would be to slightly soften the shadow on the wing.

    Cheers

Wow, this image is the essence of deep winter. Really shows the difficult conditions that birds have to endure. Very unique, don't think I've seen anything like it either. Beautifully exposed, seen, captured. Awesome work, Grace.

Hi Grace, this is a very unique shot. Like the lighting, sharpness and that awesome blue/white background. Hoping it will warm up there soon and those ice growths will drop off.

Grace - really interesting shot with the ice. I too have never seen anything like this. Techs look good and congrats for braving our brutal cold.

A few winters ago I photographed a duck with its' bill shut tight from a huge chunk of ice that had formed around it. It was so big that the bill was just heavily drooping in the water...making for more ice build-up on the bill. I suspect it did not make it....

On to your image, which I like alot. This fella looks in good shape, exposed very well, and full of nice details. I realize you wanted to include the nice BG but I do wish the subject was lower in the frame. Very nice overall though...
