Default Sanderling feeding on a Dungeness Crab carcass

Captured in Washington state a few weeks ago. This is about a 20% crop, converted in NX2, processed in ACR and CS5. I did a little bill cleanup, eye work, removed a few spec highlights from the crab and the foam. C&C welcome.

    Dan,

Like the low angle you took on this one. Neat behavior to see, and I wouldn't have know what it was feeding on if you hadn't mentioned it.

For me, I would crop some off the bottom. Right above your watermark looks like a good spot. Otherswise, splendid image.

A cracking shot, Dan. Great exposure, DOF, detail and sharpness. Only one thing I would suggest is a crop off the bottom and some off the left. The bird looks a bit to central to me. Other than that it's a great shot.

Dan, very nice, I like the behavioral aspects of the sanderling instead of a more static image. Exposure and sharpness look good, but I'd crop a little from the bottom and include a little more space on the right so as to get it a little more off-center.

Love the low angle. That's a big meal for a little bird! The new body is a huge step up in image quality; how'd you talk your wife into letting you get it? I do wish you had a bit more DOF to cover the crab, and I would crop some off the bottom. Otherwise an excellent image!

Excellent work, Dan, I of course love your low angle, and also your exposure and the behavior captured. I agree with the other folks' crop suggestions. But otherwise pretty perfect and a pleasure to view.

Lovely light and detail, great perch with a difference....agree about the crop suggestions and wondering if the brighter area on the body just below the wing could be reduced in camera RAW

Terrific pose and perch. I would crop from the bottom.

I agree with the crop suggestions, but very nice Dan, laying down paid off.

Thanks all for the comments. I am struggling with the crop suggestions! I almost OP'ed it with a tighter, less centered crop, but something about the overall look led me to the OP. I will study this.

Beautiful shot. Nice eye contact and low angle here.
