Default Doug & Marina visit Daniel in Freezing Canada

We decided to have a little Avian mod get-together on Daniel's home turf in Ottawa, Canada. It's been great getting to know the two of them, and of course photographing with them! It was a balmy -4 degrees F with a wind chill of -17 when this picture was taken yesterday. The overnight low tonight is supposed to hit something like -25! If not for the fact that we've been photographing a really special bird, we definitely would have gone with Florida for our first meet-up!

Brrrrrr! We're entering a period of bitter cold here ourselves. Wind chill is forecast to be -17 F tomorrow.

    What bird were you photographing?

Hey guys, it was a great pleasure and lots of fun photographing along side you the past few days. Marina, since you are from Florida you are forgiven for not wanting to experience the "cold" temperature this morning...but I gotta say that the icicles on Doug's eyelashes were a testament on how much of a trooper he is!

Thanks for helping make the trip so enjoyable Daniel! BTW he wasn't exaggerating about the eyelash icicles yesterday morning (wind chill of -41 degrees F). Here's proof!

Thank you Daniel for making our trip such a memorable one! It was definitely the toughest photography trip from a physical standpoint that I have ever experienced...albeit the most rewarding, not just for the photography but for the camaraderie. It's not easy to photograph a moving bird when your fingers are numb and throbbing, you can't feel the knobs on your camera and/or you can barely feel your feet beneath you. The good news is my face was mostly toasty, as evidenced by the above capture. Daniel suggested that this Florida girl not brave the "feels like -41F" as evidenced by this screen capture at 8 am yesterday. However, Doug and Daniel did and have earned bragging rights. I think Daniel mentioned it was the coldest weather in which he had ever photographed.

This was a trip that will not quickly be forgotten! Thank you Daniel and Doug for sharing this wild adventure with me!!!
