Default Young Grizzli and Spring Flowers, Yellowstone

I took this image in May 2012 one early morning in Yellowstone just at sun rise. The bear was back lit just a little bit, but the un was still very soft to enable me to take the shot. I love the soft light and the hint of Spring in the air via the flowers and the wetness of the bear fur. There was a crowrd of a dozen or more people on the road, so the bear pretended that he did not see us and walked parallel to the road with its head looking straight on. Our guide figured this was a 2-year old grizzily who left its Mama for the first time and was unsure of himself. I wish I could see the bear's eye more clearly or ther was a catch light, but that was nt the case. Appreciate your feedback.

Hi Loi - always nice to see a YNP bear. I like the comp and you did well in the early morning light. I agree with your self-critique that a slight headturn/more visible eye would enhance the image but the profile works. If it were mine I would back of the yellows about 10-15 points and also open up the midtones in a levels adjustment.

Hi Loi, nice image considering the techs and likewise the processing.

Rachel makes a good point about opening up the shadow areas a little more, but be careful you don't bring in too much grain/noise in those areas. Not a lover of the crop though, would like to see a bit more space below and less to the RHS, but still allowing enough for the bear to walk into.

If you have anything called Selective Colour where you have all various colour channels, go to Yellow, then in the four channels (Cyan,Magenta, Yellow, Black) try dropping the Yellow to say -30 & plussing the Black to say +20 & see what it does to the grass. This is a bit more to what rachel was referring to, but it does help. The numbers quoted are suggested and not fixed.

Nice detail adn good colds, I would like to see the bear angled a bit more toward you but that might not be what you were going for. Nice image!

    Hey Loi,
Yeah.....if you had the bear angled slightly at you.....it would take this up quite a bit. Some other good suggestions above but a nice image overall.

A nice side-on profile here, Loi. Can't add much more the suggestions above...but would like to see shadow detail in the fur opened up a little...
