Took this image on 1-20-2013 at Ocean Shores, Wa. Late evening as the sun was going down. Nikon D600 80-400vr @400mm on tripod, f/7.1, 1/200, wb incandencent(camera is new to me while setting wb quickly, the light bulb icon looked like the sun icon) This is the Jpeg image, I have a raw image, but photoshop 5 can't read it. Just purchased Lightroom 4 but haven't had time to learn yet. To excited to post image! Thanks for looking, all suggestions welcome.

Craig...this is a real beauty...a winner...hang it up somewhere. Even with the wb on incandescent it looks good to me. I would like to see a corrected wb image sometime. Congrats on a fine image!

I don't blame you Craig for being excited, I would be too! Beautiful shot of a lovely creature. Loving the light on this. I'm afraid I'll never see one living so far south, so thanks for posting!

Wonderful shot! I did not know snowy owls could be found that far south.

Mesmerizing! Great capture! Yep, a bit of WB correction and will be totally ROCKIN'! (I have Snowy Envy.) Love the perch (maybe a teeny bit busy on the left?) and straight-on gaze these guys/gals are famous for.

    Craig,

Fantastic shot, what a find. Good comments above and adjusting the WB (Color Temp) can bring this back in line - moreover to better represent what you actually saw. CS5 can make the adjustment with a JPEG too, no worries there. Just curious, how much crop here?

Composition/subject placement is fine I might crop a small layer from the left - those EYES!

Absolute beauty! Love the sharpness, composition, the straight stare, the radiant eyes and the dreamy blue BG.

Thanks for nice comments, Jeff, I didn't crop this image in processing. I think this was in the DX mode in Camera.

Hi Craig, good going - what a great capture! I took a very quick shot at correcting the color, I'm sure you can do a much better job with the RAW file as there is only so much you can do with a JPEG (plus I don't know what the scene actually looked like or how you want it to look, just guessing). Great capture, excellent field technique and camera work. Look forward to seeing more!

That is an absolutly wondefull shot., Snowy's are on my list to find of photograph. There were a couple in Southern PA last winter, but after a couple of trips up and not fonding them, I gave up.

Excellent shot Craig! I actually prefer your version over Kerry's - as I'm enjoying the pinkish hues that makes it look like quite the rosy sunrise/sunset! Those eyes are mesmerizing! And I also prefer this version over the vertical version you posted in another thread.
