I'm always so envious of the Hummingbird images, I do wish we had them here. Looks great but I wonder if it would be nicer having the bird closer to the flower head so it is not quite so close to the right hand of the frame. If youy are competent and OK with using a clone tool in PS I would suggest get rid of the brighter oof spots in the backdrop and the darker smudges top right and left

Hi Nelson,
I like the flower and the diagonal line coming in from the ULC.
I find the bright circles of light in the BG very distracting and would get rid of the one beneath the bird.
I would also give more room on the RHS for the tail.
I think the bird's head is a bit soft and would try a bit more sharpening to see if it helps,

Hi Nelson. That's a great first effort and yes, I like it!. I think you could do the setup so that the bird is slightly angled toward you to get a better head angle. And try to get rid of the bright highlights so we are not distracted from the beautiful subject. Maybe adding one more flash would help to even out the light a bit more and eliminate the dark corners.

Hi,

The complex flash setup has payed off well in terms of the lighting and iridescence of the bird. But I find the overall image a bit wanting. The bird is a bit small in the image, and to me appears a bit soft, especially the head. The large oof pale areas near the bird are distracting. The bg is a bit noisy and the corners look vignetted. But you have great opportunities to photograph hummers in Costa Rica, and it sounds as if you have a great setup, so I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks Nelson. Aside from the several problems already mentioned, there is a serious problem with the printed background as it would seem that it surely was the cause of the bright white circles on the right. I would suggest getting a copy of "The Hummingbird Guide – How to Photograph Hummingbirds Using High-Speed Multiple Flash by Linda Robbins with Arthur Morris." Learn more here.

thanks arthur, i already saw the book few weeks ago, i know the background is not good, what im trying to do is make pictures look more natural ill try to make another post when i have more photos thanks :)
