    Default Black Kite in flight

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Camera Canon EOS 7D
    Exposure 0.001 sec (1/2000)
    Aperture f/6.3
    Focal Length 400 mm
    ISO Speed 640
    Exposure Bias 0 EV

I did not have enough time to zoom out with my 100-400, ended up clipping the right wing tip :-( but I liked the image hence posting it since it shows the close up details.

    Sanjeev,

I want you to consider two options:

    1. Reconstructing the wings tips
    2. alternative crop

Always give the subject room in the frame to breath - tight all over!

Let me know what you think and repost - does that sound reasonable?

The head and particularly the eye are impressively sharp, well done there. The angle is great except that it leaves so much of the bird in shadow, which is too bad. It looks like there's some good detail in there, the feet for instance, but it's just too dark to see.

I agree that the crop is a tiny bit tight. It's too bad about the wing tip but I understand that that sometimes you only get one shot at a quickly moving bird.

The head seems sharp, so that's good. As you already know, the killer is the wing position.
If you would've captured the Kite on the upstroke that would've been a big improvement.

Did you get another more shots in? That would make rebuilding the wing a whole lot easier,
which is what I would go for in regards to Jeff's two choices.

Thanks Jeff, Doug and Grant. I got couple of other shots of this one, will check them and try to rebuild, though I must admit I am not good at surgery in PS :-)

Just take your time. This is a good image to practice on.

    Sanjeev,

I understand and do not rebuild parts myself (it is an options) thats why I provided two alternative path,..I would usually opt for another crop not sure you have enough pixels to maintain IQ. In this case the surgery as you stated is probably the best option and would be good post processing education. What the heck, give it a try!

Sanjeev, this is a wonderful shot and think it would be well worth the time to try and "fix" the wing. Really great head shot!
