Triangle Palm Abstract
The bark on the trunk of a Triangle Palm in the Longwood Gardens Conservatory caught my eye.
Processed in Elements 10: Levels, selective lightening, selective saturation (using sponge tool), Viveza, duplicate and blend at Soft Light 40%.

I like the abstract look, the colors, and the lines, but I'm not sure about having so much detail, especially in the background. I've been pondering Cheryl's alternative Orton approach and decided to try a version of it on this, just to see what would happen.
Rather than go to the bother of taking it into Adobe Camera Raw to reduce Clarity, I ran it through Topaz Simplify (just a small dose of the Simplify Size slider). Then, I made a duplicate of the original layer and applied about 20 pixels of Gaussian blur and used Multiply blend mode. Things were pretty dark, and Cheryl had talked about using an underexposed original, so I put a Curves adjustment layer with a lot of lightening between the Topaz layer and the blurred one. Here's what happened.
Anita, I like the abstract, pointillism look with the added colors (I'd forgotten about the sponge tool until I read John's post). I like Dennis' post also - it reminds me of a watercolor.

It is a nice abstract with interesting shapes and colors. I can see toning down the detail as a good variation.
