Made this image about a month ago while out at Ft. Desoto with Drew Wilson, Chad Anderson, and Dr. Van Hilliard. It turned out to be a great morning, with great people.

Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Nikon 600 f/4
Manual Exposure, 1/1250 @ f/6.3
ISO 400, Wimberley II head on Giottos legs

Beautiful Image. The light is wonderful, sharpness and exposure are very good as well.

IMO (as your father and reviewer) having the subject higher in the frame would put this over the top.
I feel the room or space below the subject could be increased.
When possible and when you have the room in the frame, I like a full reflection

I like the position of your subject on the right side of the frame.

I put his eye at the "top-third" line, but considering the height of my subject, a little more room at the bottom would be nice, and it setups a pleasing foreground. I think I have some more room in the original frame.

The golden rule is only a guideline, a good one but still only a guideline.

The size and shape of the subject will make a diference. Pleasing balance is also a compositional element to be considered and can not always be met sticking to rigid rules.

We are just suggesting a tweak.

Sounds like a good tweak to me. I'll see if I can recrop and update in this thread. Might be a good teaching tool.
