Modifications enabled with version 2.7.1 :
Modifications that apply to both the Windows and Macintosh versions

  • Support for the D5200, and Nikon 1 models J3 and S1 has been added.
  • The following issues with movies recorded using the Nikon 1 V2 with White Balance set to Underwater have been resolved.

    • Thumbnails for movies transferred with Nikon Transfer 2 using a card reader are not displayed in the thumbnail list area.
    • When Metadata is selected from the Edit palette, information other than that in File Info 1 is displayed.

Modifications that apply to both the Windows and Macintosh versions

  • Support for the Nikon 1 V2 has been added.
  • The AF Noise Reduction function, which reduces noise produced by auto focusing during movie recording and picked by the built-in microphone, has been added.
  • The AF Noise Reduction function is available only for the following devices:

    • Camera: The D3200 (released in May 2012) and later digital-SLR cameras.
    • Lens:

      • AF-S NIKKOR and AF-I NIKKOR lenses
      • AF-S/AF-I teleconverters (AF-S/AF-I lenses are required)


  • When white balance of RAW images captured with the P7700 was adjusted using Use Gray Point, specified point did not turn gray. This issue has been resolved.

Additional modifications to the Windows version

  • Support for the 64bit- and 32bit- versions of Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 Enterprise has been added.
  • When a large number of images were transferred with Nikon Transfer 2 using a card reader, Nikon Transfer 2 quit unexpectedly on rare occasions. This issue has been resolved.

Additional modifications to the Macintosh version

  • Support for IEEE 1394 connection for the D1, D1H, and D1X has been eliminated.
  • The following issues with combined use of Mac OS X version 10.6 and Nikon Transfer 2 have been resolved.

    • When the camera and computer are connected and the camera is turned off after Nikon Transfer 2 is launched, Nikon Transfer 2 quits unexpectedly on rare occasions.
    • When a large number of images on a memory card are transferred using a card reader, the transfer is terminated unexpectedly on rare occasions.

Modifications enabled with version 2.5.0:

  • Support for the Nikon1 J2 has been added.
  • Support for the P7700, S01, S800c, and L610 has been added.
  • When images are transferred from a mass storage device with multiple media inserted with Disconnect automatically after transfer in the Nikon Transfer 2 Preferences panel checked, all recognized media are automatically disconnected after transfer.
  • Support for distortion control data Ver. 1.006 has been added.
  • When RAW images captured with a Nikon digital-SLR camera incorporating distortion control data Ver. 1006 (D90, D3100, D3200, D5000, D5100, D7000, D4, D800, D800E) and the AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G were opened in ViewNX 2, an error message was displayed and the images could not be edited. This issue has been resolved.
  • Files and albums stored on my Picturetown can now be downloaded via ViewNX 2 as follows. However, files from Albums Shared with Me cannot be downloaded.

    • Select an album in the my Picturetown panel and click the download button.
    • Select an album in the my Picturetown panel and then choose Web Service > my Picturetown > Download Album... from the File menu.
    • Select an album in the my Picturetown panel and drag images and movies displayed in the image view area to the folder tree.

  • Facebook has been added to default Web Service options on the toolbar.
  • The speed at which NEF and NRW files are displayed in Nikon Movie Editor has been increased.
  • The project name is now displayed in the Nikon Movie Editor title bar.
  • Two new options, 960 x 540 and 854 x 480, have been added to those available in the Size: pulldown menu in the Create movie dialog.
  • A black band is no longer displayed above and below NEF and NRW files displayed in Nikon Movie Editor.

  • Support for Google Earth has been eliminated.
  • The following issues that occurred with selection of movie files in Image Viewer mode have been resolved.

    • When attempting to delete a folder from the folder tree in the Browser palette, an error message was displayed and while files inside the folder were deleted, the folder itself was not.
    • When attempting to change the name of a folder in the folder tree in the Browser palette, an error message was displayed and the folder name could not be changed.
    • When ViewNX 2 was launched, some online storage services were automatically accessed and a log-in dialog was displayed. This issue has been resolved.
    • An issue that sometimes caused some XMP files to be displayed in the Thumbnail List has been resolved
    • An issue that caused display of components such as the menu bar to be very small when monitors were set to 144 dpi has been resolved.
    • Image display quality when sizes larger than Larger were selected for Thumbnail Size in the View menu has been increased.
    • When images are transferred using Nikon Transfer 2 with a shared folder specified as the Primary destination folder in the Primary Destination panel and the Backup destination folder in the Backup Destination panel, sharing settings will now be applied to the transferred files.
    • The font name is now always displayed in Nikon Movie Editor's Text Setting dialog.


Additional modifications to the Macintosh version

  • The amount of time required to change the names of multiple files at once using the Rename... option in the File menu has been reduced.

Modifications enabled with version 2.3.2:

  • When printing images with Print As: in the Printer Setup dialog set to Full Page and the Print Information box checked, images were printed with excessive margins, regardless of the options selected for printing in the Advanced Print Information Settings dialog. This issue has been resolved.

Modifications enabled with version 2.3.1:

  • Support for the Coolpix S30 has been added.
  • When images to which voice messages recorded using the Leave a message and Leave a reply options built into the COOLPIX S30, have been attached are transferred with Nikon Transfer 2 Ver. 2.3.1, the two voice messages are transferred as a single audio file. The audio file will be created with the same file name as the image, but with the extension “.wav”.

  • Support for the D800, and D800E have been added.
  • Support for the D3200, COOLPIX 9300, COOLPIX S6300, COOLPIX S4300, COOLPIX S3300, COOLPIX S2600, COOLPIX P510, COOLPIX P310, COOLPIX L810, COOLPIX L310, COOLPIX L26, and L25 was added.
  • Save and Save As... items have been added to the File menu.
  • Original image files (original format, size, resolution, etc...) can now be sent as e-mail attachments from View NX 2 using the Email function.
  • A Margins function has been added to Index Print settings in the Print dialog.
  • Slideshows were sometimes not displayed properly when run with Auto-Hide Slide Controls selected for Toolbars in the slideshow Settings Dialog. This issue has been resolved. (64-bit version of ViewNX 2 only).

Additional modifications to the Windows version

  • View NX2 and the Picture Control Utility now function as native 64-bit applications under 64-versions of Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
  • When the decimal symbol used by the OS was set to anything other than a period (.) or comma (,) from the Regional and Language Options in the operating system's Control panel, position information was not correctly displayed. This issue has been resolved.
  • An issue that prevented the editing of informaiton in the Metadate palette for images saved to Windows shared folders has been resolved.
  • An issue that prevented smooth playback of Motion Snapshot files with some systems has been resolved.

Additional modifications to the Macintosh version

  • View NX 2, the Picture Control Utility, and Nikon Transfer 2 now function as native 64-bit applications inder Mac OS X versions 10.6 and 10.7.

Modifications added to previous View NX 2.2.5 version:

  • Support for the D4 has been added
  • Auto 2 is now available for selection from the list of White Balance settings in the Adjustments palette for RAW images captured with the COOLPIX P7100.
  • An issue that prevented display of Exposure mode in the Metadata palette for images captured underwater in Easy Auto mode with the COOLPIX AW100/AW100s has been resolved.
  • An Event box has been added under Description in the Metadata palette.
  • Lens information is now displayed in the Metadata palette for images captured with the Nikon 1 V1 or Nikon 1 J1 using the Mount Adapter FT1 and a CPU lens.
