    Default Buff-Banded Rail

One of our elusive Rail species...
As I was shooting a BB Rail feeding, another one came flying across from stage left and chased my bird off! It eventually ventured back out and resumed feeding. I thought I'd take a punt and ramp up the shutter speed just in case Rail no.2 came back out and resumed chasing! I got lucky with 2 sharp frames as the Rail ran past at full speed!

    D800, 300 2.8VRII, 1.7TC, f4.8, 1/4000, ISO3200. Bag hide.
    Thanks, Greg.

Wow ISO 3200.....they are great looking birds and as you say elusive and timid. Like the fast action with water flying back and wide aspect works nicely

Cool bird and cool pose. I think I would prefer to see a little more environment but certainly works as presented.

    Greg-

This is a stunner! Way to be prepared!

ISO 3200!! very nice exposure to get that little noise in the image. Would love to hear your PP to reduce the noise even further (although I know it all starts with a proper exposure).

Look forward to seeing the other sharp frame!

Hi Greg, excellent low angle, and you were obviously prepared to capture this shot. Great 'running' pose, leaning forward with the raised foot. Im amazed there is still motion blur in the raised foot for such a fast ss. I like the hint of reflection of the legs in the water.

Great job anticipating the action and preparing for it. Love the splashing action and rising curled foot. Nice colours. Pano crop works very well, I would just try to get rid of the haziness along the bottom edge. Perhaps just darkening it via burn tool would work. Well done!

Good call on the setting and an excellent action shot, Greg. Your camera handled the high ISO pretty good. It's a minor thing, but I would sharpen the water droplets with the sharpening tool, if it were mine.
