Nick:
Great water color to match the eye, good shooting angle, hint of green on head, ripples in front, nice head turn.
For me, just a sliver more canvas front and rear.
This type of image with dark bird against a lighter background, can result in the bird being overpowered by the bright background. I think yours works, although a tiny bit of fill flash would have been interesting.
Cheers

Hi Nick,
I really like this. Perfect HA and the BG matches the eye perfectly.
I like the little ripples in front of the duck.
Would add a bit more space behind the bird,
Gail

Stunning capture, Nick. Lovely HA, good shooting angle, nice ripples, awesome water color. Would like a little more room right, and some on top to balance it out. Agree with Randy that a little fill flash would have worked, but it would also have created quite a different image. This is a lovely capture with nice details in the head.

Awesome mood and colors...love the water color! Water beads on the duck are a nice feature.
Looks like it just came up from a dive. Tightness of the comp has been covered nicely. I'm trying
to figure out the reflection in regards to what looks like a bit of vegetation hanging from the bill
area in the reflection, but does not appear on the duck....?

That water color is just amazing.
Great pose, nice details, and excellent shooting angle.
Very well done.

Well done !.......loving the colors in this and the duck stands out boldly from that eye catching vivid backdrop, Just enough detail retained in the darker plumage as well so exposure looks great. Myself I think it fits in the frame well as is....but a tiny...very tiny nitpic would be to clone out that fine black line in the refection just below where water meets chest

That's a peach love the colours and the pose, my only reservation is that it is slightly large in the frame.

Hi Nick, good low angle, pose and good HA, and love the hint of green on the head. The eye pops nicely from the darker plumage of the head, and of course that BG is very striking which I like lots. I would only add space on the RHS.

Nick-
The thumbnail looked promising and the higher res didn't disappoint! Absolutely love the color and luminance of the bg.
I could see a version with a bit more room all around and i would see if you could burn the left edge just a smidge, as it looks like it might be a bit bright (compared to the rest of the bg).

The low angle makes it lovely,
Like the details on the bird and the color of water is magical.
This bird we do get as a migrant some day hope to make a decent image of it

Nice bright, golden water with low angle, and a perfect subject. Fine job.

Lovely bird and lovely " Liquid Gold" BG, love the low angle and also the water droplets on the bird...somehow the reflection of the bird is slightly distracting imo...

Lovely. Issues covered well above, including a bit more room, the "fine black line", and fill flash. It's true that the gorgeous bg color overpowers the bird to some extent, but seen as an overall image and not just a picture of a duck, this is just beautiful.

Thanks for the comments. The prize for most observant goes to Shawn who spotted a bit of weed from the bill in the reflection, I processed this image a some weeks ago and forgot I had removed the weed with the spot healing brush. As well as removing the weed from the reflection I have increased the canvas size at the front, top and back of the image using the method demonstrated by Artie here http://www.birdsasart-blog.com/2013/...-how-did-that/. I also reduced the brightness and changed the hue to match the rest of the image at the front of the image by using a gradient mask.

Nick:
I like the added canvas in front and rear. I am kind of a pano guy with waterfowl, so was OK above as in the original.
One last little tweak, remove the specular highlight shown on the back of the head reflection.
Cheers

Hey Nick,
Sweeeeeet color and angle. I'm OK with OP but agree with room on back and repost with pano off top as Randy suggests.....would work for me too. Subjective tweaks to a very fine image!!!

Thanks Randy and Roman, image posted with specular highlight removed and top cropped of as suggested.
