Made it my goal this winter to compile a collection of Red Headed Ducks. As a by product of photographing them I have also been fortunate to witness their predators.

Coopers Hawk seconds after capturing a female.

Fantastic image, Mike. I love the feather, the bit of blood, and the mantling(?) effect of the wings extended a bit. Great detail and sharpness. Kind of glad not to have a better view of the prey...

Fantastic capture and sharpness!! The feather in the beak makes this one very special! I agree with some off the top and I'd remove a little from the bottom as well.

This raptor has a very strong patter and dark colour. I hardly recognized it.
As far the picture. it cannot be any better. The feather in the beak tells the story without graphic content. Well done.

    Terrific intense look and pose.
I would not change a thing, sharp, well exposed and great IQ.
I would not crop off the top just because of the green band which gives it a border.

Love the image and the story it portrays. That feather and the touch of blood are spot on. Very unique colors on this Cooper'sI feel a crop from the bottom is the answer here. The dead space below for me draws my eye away from this amazing capture. This particular crop is right on the rule of thirds, and I feel it is a more powerful image. What say you?

Awesome capture Mike and you got to see the beauty and the beast all in one day. I love the pose here, the feather the head angle and great detail. I am with the repost for the crop. Nice Job

This is a great capture that you've got here. I agree with the negative space issue as mentioned by Marina. This is a very powerful image and goes to show the ruthless attitude of this little hunter. Tfs
