    Default Sandhill Crane - Bosque

Another in a series of photos from Bosque Del Apache. This is of a Sandhill Crane as he flew over my head. I was tripod mounted with a gimbal head.

Canon 50D; ISO 400; EF 70-200 mm f/4L IS @ 200 mm; 1/2500 @ f/8. -1/3 EV, no flash; Evaluative metering, AV mode; AI-servo AF. PP in LR 4.3. I cropped a second crane from the upper left, so about 50% of FF.

    C/C always welcome and appreciated.

Beautiful image Dennis, the cloudy sky adds to it IMO. Well exposed and good HA, maybe a bit steep.

What a lovely flight pose you have here with the nice angle and turned up wings. The sky is quite different from what we normally see and it almost looks as though you placed the crane on it. :)

    Dennis:

Great use of the wide(er) angle to show less compression in the bg and get the nice cloud coverage! Nice wing angle and timing.

I would add just a light round of sharpening to the body and head.

I'm really liking the cloud / sky mix here and for that reason the relatively steep angle works well. Looks like the crane is eyeing you as it passes by!

Love the pose and BG. I may be tempted to boost the contrast a touch on the wing underside....looks a bit too bright.....but minor tweak. Very nice indeed!

Thank you for the comments...glad you liked it. I'll take your comments to heart and work on it a little more. This was a single shot, not a composite. I was just lucky that day with the light cloud cover.

One small oops...this shot was handheld, not tripod mounted. As I never tripod mount the 70-200, I must have been thinking of another shot with a 500 mm lens. I had both rigs with me, and handheld the 50D with 70-200, and tripod mounted a 7D with the 500.

I love the angle of the Crane's wings and the beautiful sky Dennis.
