    Default red capped/masked cardinal

    Hai again

Red capped cardinal/masked cardinal (not sure which one it's called now) seemingly lamenting his choice to procreate. In the bg is a juvenile. Let me know if you guys get that same feeling from this shot as I did! All C&C welcome! (I'm gradually understanding the acronyms here ;-))

Hi, Faraaz. Although my initial response was 'what's with the OOF bird in the BG?', I looked again and decided I like it and it fits with your story. I'd be inclinded to trim a bit off the top and viewer's left something like this (pardon my rough go on my crummy editor that I have at work).

Faraaz, I love the sharpness and color here and I like the juvenile in the background. (Is it me or does he look disappointed in his kid?) I agree with Ian about the crop though. Also, I think the image is a bit on the dark side. Have you tried brightening it just a bit?

For some reason, Ian's crop seems a bit darker and de-saturated in my browser. Ian, was that intentional?

No ... I think it was just secondary to the lousy editor I was using. Faraaz's looks far better.

What a pretty bird Faraaz. I like the juvi in the background and Ian's crop works for me as well. Your original doesn't look too dark on my monitor, but maybe a bit of eye/head brightening of the adult might help to bring more focus to that area of the frame.

The one thing I keep going back and forth on is the juvenile's tail 'growing' out
from the adult. Part of me says to clone it out. The other says to leave it in.

Thanks very much for your valued feedback. You're right - the bird could do with a bit of brightening. I agree with Ian's suggestion about the crop. Guess there was just too much negative space in that area.
Grant - he's quite the expressive bird!
Ian's version looks brighter on this monitor.
Doug - I didn't even notice that piece of tail until you brought it up. I guess it can be cloned out, but at the same time I usually leave most of what I shoot in the photo. Maybe that's something that eventually has to change about me? Heh.

The worse part for me...cloning something out, but always remembering it was
    there in the first place.

Doug - even worse - after cloning something out, you always remember it was there, so some minute detail about the clone operation bugs you, and no one ever understands!!!

Faaraz, I really like the colors and the pose. I do find the juvie in the background a little distracting but not overly so. I think that I'd leave the tail there as it's part of the environment.

I too vote for the cropped version by Ian ,the cropped one ,pulls me in too the eye more , I also agree on removing the tip of the tail .
