    Default Van Gogh Still Life

Although Dave didn't do many still life images that I can remember, I'm so grateful to him for introducing us to DAP. I was working on my images from Dudley Farm State Park in Gainesville Florida and this one cried out for a Van Gogh treatment. This was taken in the front hall and the reflection of the straw hat in the mirror reminded me of Van Gogh. I started out using Topaz Adjust Toned Black Rose, then used DAP Sunflowers at 80% opacity, then Nik Color Efex Skylight Filter to brighten it up a bit and finally Nik Color Efex GND to lighten the upper portion.
    Thanks for looking

Absolutely beautiful. The colors and the look are just wonderful. I have to admit I'm curious about your lightening the upper part of the image (not that I have any idea how dark it was). With the strong verticals, the top of the mirror being cropped away, and the light color of the upper right edge, my eyes pretty much stay at the top of the image. I do like the shadow detail in the upper part, however, and I suppose that would be lost if you hadn't lightened it.

Dennis, thanks! I've attached the original image (untouched). When I applied the toning in Topaz Adjust the Black Rose darkened the image up considerably. I wasn't sure how much DAP would change the lighting so I waited until I had finished DAP before enhancing the light.

Thanks for the look at the original, Cheryl. I've been scrolling back and forth looking at the transformation you orchestrated. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Really nice Cheryl, you definitely succeeded at making a VG painting! Good eye to see the possibilities and super processing skills to realize the vision you had. I love it!

Hi, Anita. DAP is Dynamic Auto Painter - you can buy it at Amazon, the price has gone down and it is well worth it - http://www.amazon.com/Mediachance-MC.../dp/B007BV972S for $51.00. Each artist has a default number of brush strokes but you can let it run as long or short as you want. A lot of times I'll let it run for much fewer strokes and save it as a layered PSD. You can then copy and paste it over your original image and adjust the opacity so you get some interesting effects. I will also let it run for a short time, save it and do a Gaussian blur and use it as a texture. The options are endless. Dave was a master at it.
