    Default Barred Owl

I was lucky to have met photographers whom I knew and they gave me direction to the owl.
The problem was that I had the 500 with me which is not really good for shooting in a dense forest.
The picture is full frame. In fact it is bigger than full frame as I added canvas to the top, bottom and right.
I might go back with a shorter lens and try to find it on my own which can be very challanging as it moves around a lot I heard.
Smoothened the backgrond a bit as well.
    Thanks for looking.

Hi Karl, love the alert look down stare, and we have a good view of those talons holding onto the perch. ( are Owls 'claws' called talons? ) The Owl does stand out against the smooth BG. You have good friends sending you to a great opportunity.

Beautiful owl Karl, and I love the view of the talons. Nice and sharp, well exposed. I do wish the sun was more directly behind you to light the shaded part of the face, and the lower left corner could be worked on (the bit of blue showing there could be filled in). Nice of those photographers to point you to the owl...

Congrats, Karl, what a super portrait. Great catchlight you got, barred owl eyes can look not very alive some of the time. Love all the textures in the feathers.

    Really sweet Karl.
I like the composition and your PP is really good.
I would try to lighten the shady side of the face.

Nice portrait! Awfully nice of those photographers to point you in the right direction! It's been my experience that many photographers are very secretive when it comes to their prized raptor locations! I know of a great barred owl location myself, and like to visit my excellent friend once in a while! I agree that a 500mm lens is too long...

I agree a bit more room would have been nice, but I would have loved to get this close up.
Just a tiny bit of head turn would have been great, but nice as is.

Nice shot Karl. A simple composition that works nicely with the slanted tree and downward look of the owl.
