I took this shot towards the end of last year, while waiting for a flight shot chance of my favorite RTHA perching nearby.
    Thanks for looking.

Nice job on the bird and great bonus with the berry in his mouth. I'm a little distracted by the branch on the top left but easy fix if you choose to do so. Very nice pose.

    Karl,

I agree with the comments above. Nice detail, good light, and great pose.

I do see the background as a bit of a distraction, and I think it would be less so if the berries in it were more uniformly distributed. I wish the perch were a bit cleaner, but you did mention this wasn't the shot you were after (I'd love to see the in flight shot!)

This is such a sweet image, Karl. I like so many things about it.
The light is gorgeous, the comp is perfect and so is the eye contact. I love the food and a clear view of the mouth.
Love the oof berries in the bg, and the stems without the berries tell a story :)
    Wouldn't change a thing here.

Hi Karl, you can clearly see this guy is posing for you - beak full of berry too. Great that the perch is angled diagonally, and although the bird is framed between the two perches, I would remove the one on top. Im fine with the OOF berries in the BG.

I would remove the branch, but it is a really colorful image to view on a Gray winter day!

If I had an opportunity for images like this, I would soon forget about the hawk!
Very interesting to see a juvenile. Perfect pose with the berry and wonderful perch and BG.
All of the empty berry stems help to tell the story.

Nice image, as is . . . I have a lot of waxwing images but have yet to capture the classic "with berry pose".

Repost is better with the branch gone, like the scattering of oof berries behind and of course one in mouth is a great bonus, maybe a touch more sharpen to head only

Liked the repost so much that I took five minutes to clean up the llc with a small crop, several Q masks, and some Clone Stamp work.

Yup, the clutter in the llc and the white lichens really grabbed the viewer's eye....

    Hi Karl,
I am a bit late to the party but when I looked at the OP my first thought was - lose the top branch. As I scrolled down I saw your repost and it is terrific!
I just love the pop of red from the berries scattered throughout the BG.
Terrific IQ and HA and body angle.
    Congrats on a terrific shot,
    Gail
