I still have lots of leopard shots left from my August trip to the Timbavati Game Reserve, South Africa. This is the mother again. She paused for just a second as she was coming down from the tree to see where her cub was. I went with a narrower dof here, trying to get a creamier bokeh.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Super detail Rachel and you definitely got the creamy bokeh you were trying for. Such nice clarity in those eyes.

    Hi Rachel,
You have achieved lovely detail and I like the perspective you were able to gain in your image. I would however crop from the bottom and the right to get more focus on those wonderful eyes as the shortened forelegs, I find a wee bit distracting.
    TFS and best wishes,
    Mark.

Thanks Steve and Mark, much appreciated. Unfortunately I cut off the legs in camera and wanted to include a bit of the tree for context (otherwise I thought it looked strange) but I can revisit the crop.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel, all looks good and I like the departure from the canopy series, having the lovely subtle & diffused BKG really works and helps separate the subject nicely.

I would look to tweaking the Levels based on the histogram and then just tweak the eyes a little more and perhaps a little vibrance too. Cropwise, I am easy either way to have the bit of bark in for 'context' or you can just crop or clone it out, but would certainly lose some off the LHS, too much dead space there, you need the space on the right for the Leopard to look into.

Techs look good and good call on the DOF.

Steve took the words out of my mouth. I'd lift overall luminosity here and add some vibrance.
Lovely details and clarity and look! Perhaps crop to portrait using the RHS leg as a "frame" and losing the open space on the LHS?

Thanks guys. Here's a repost with the suggested crop and tweaks. I wanted to leave enough room on the left though so as not to clip any of the whiskers. I think it works well.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel, I think having such little visible front leg means it's not really working as well as perhaps the landscape format with less space on the LHS, however. Would does work based on the RP is a square crop, you have room for the whiskers and the front leg, but the tighter crop emphasises the face & look nicely IMHO and makes the image stronger overall.

    Hi Rachel,

lots have been said what I think too. So no need to add on that.
I tried my paper "trick" again for a crop, but had to pull it in PS. ( now the smilie don't work :(( )
Anyway, why you don't try to crop it from the full size you have in portrait! You said you cropped this, but I have no idea top,bottom..etc. !!
I would try that. PS ^ try the Diagonal rules. That worked quite well, but just need a bit on the top or maybe the bottom.
Again, all just grown in my head and eyes lol. Gove it a try, if you ike

    Happy New Year 2013 :))

    Ciao

    Anette

PS Have seen your comment with my Stranded forever pic. Was lucky with the fog :))

Thanks Annette - this repost was cropped from the full size. I had only taken a sliver off the bottom and lhs for the op.

Happy New Year to you too!

I like the recrop, Rachel, but I would include a bit more leg...

Thanks Morkel, on this one I didn't like a squarer crop which is what happens if I try to include more leg but retain all the whiskers. Personally, I prefer the landscape orientation of the op (maybe with a tiny bit of the lhs removed but I don't mind the negative space).

    Thanks again,
    Rachel
