    Default Full Frame Bufflehead.

Unlike most areas, the Buffleheads are pretty tame here.
This is the first Full Frame photo I have ever posted, not one pixel removed.
I would have liked the bird a bit lower in the frame. As you can see from the
settings, I was set up for flight shots.

Fantastic light. love the water and the visible foot. Pose and comp are very nice too.
Whites around the chest appear a bit hot, although I'm not viewing this on a calibrated monitor.

    Hi Dan,
Don't you just love it when you can post a full frame shot? It always makes the image extra special.
This is a lovely image.Full of great details with all those pixels available for every feather.
Good iridescence captured and I really like the visible pink foot. My favorite is the single little water droplet on the back.
I wish the sun had been a bit more behind you to get a bit more light on those rear feathers but then you may not have been able to show the iridescence as well.
If mine, I would clone out the extra catchlight,
    Gail

Very nice shot Dan. Agree the whites look slightly hot, but can still see detail on most. Love the water and the pink foot visible through the water. I suspect the double catch-light is from the direct sun and the reflection off the water. Nice image overall.

Nice and close and I like the water drops on the head. If this were mine I think I would take more off the bottom just below first line of reflection and add more from top if you have it.

Congrats on a nice FF shot of a Bufflehead! You captured the iridescence nicely and your detail is quite good. Your exposure appears to have lost the whites a little, and your efforts to tame them have resulted in some yellowish discoloration. When I set my exposure for a Bufflehead, it's all about the whites; I let the blacks fall where they may. I tend to find that the blacks are usually recoverable.

    Dan:

You are sure correct about buffle heads being skittish in most areas ( mine for sure!). I have yet to get a quality shot of them, despite having a fair number migrating through each year.

Good comments from the crew. On my calibrated monitor, the whites show some detail except on the throat. I agree with Cheryl about a bit off the bottom.

I guess I will just have to keep trying on these guys, or come visit you!

    Cheers
