Looking forward to my Florida tours in a few months and spending some more days on the Hooptie with James. This was from last years tour with him on the boat. The 2 days I include for my tours on his boat are always the highlight of the tour for everyone!!! While Spoonies are the main highlight......we also have plenty of ops for other birds. While this one may not qualify as "ballchinian" (Ask James, Randy, or Daniel).....we had some tough wind/light directions to work with....so went for my favorite dark BG's! Normally I would darken the BG even more....left it is is.

    f/8 at 1/3200 sec. and ISO 800.

I am glad you didn't crop any closer and that you didn't go darker. I think the BG colors complement your bird's colors well. The slight motion in the wings works well and the light was quite lovely here. Still haven't captured that perfect "ballchinian" yet. Maybe this year!

Nice one Roman... The whites look great and the wing position is perfect. I love the position of the black feathers on the ends of the wings. This is a really cool capture. If that was the trip I was on it was awesome!!

Good landing pose, BG shows the environment nicely.
I could see the noise on the wings.

Nicely done, Roman. I especially like that you can see the bright eye. Fine job.

F8 really works well here Roman, it gives a very nice 3D look to it.
The BG is very nice, dark enough!

    Roman:

Nicely composed Romanesque crop, good landing pose, excellent eye. I like the balance of dark bg and bird, wouldn't go darker on BG for my tastes. In fact, I wouldn't mind 1/4 more exposure overall.

I am afraid you are correct, not a perfect Ballchinian, but overall pretty darn nice.

    Cheers

I think I can safely say that it is the women on the boat that have a better eye and finer appreciation for 'ballchinian'!
    This is really nice Roman.
Great colors and I like the wingspread and the way the primaries are curled.
The eye really pops out on this one,
    Gail
