Red Tail Profile

A very tame wild bird - not afraid of approach by car on the roadside.
Bird is intently watching for voles.

Wow, such stunning detail Don, great light and it seems a great opportunity being able to approach closely. Loving that eye and sits in the frame well.

Yum! and lucky you. But plenty of photographic skill evident too. DOF is covered perfectly.
I like the hawk's concentration. Techs look like you were anticipating flight....

Very nice portrait Don. The direction of the light was perfect and fully covered the subject. Techs and details are awesome. I have many closeups like this of different raptors but they are all of mine or my friends captive birds. Great job getting this close to a wild bird.

Wonderful portrait ... love the intense stare!
Nice light, excellent detail and DOF, and great BG.
I'm seeing a bit of a green cast. Try adding some magenta and see what you think.

Mike
I am not seeing nor measuring a green shift on any of my three calibrated moniotrs.
nik's white balance has also set a pure white based upon the white (greyish area used) feathers.
4 samples-whites, background and two on the bird

Anyone else? thanks
Don

Hi Don,
When I took the jpeg as posted into PS and added a Color Balance adjustment layer with the green/magenta slider set to -6, the image looked better and more natural to me.
Of course, these things can be subjective and there's always the possible variation in monitors. Try it and see how it looks to you which is what really matters.

Hi Don, love the light in this, and really like the overall detail. Nice and sharp, and I feel you have cropped this perfectly.

Thanks, Mike, but your suggestion makes it more magenta on the three monitors I use.
I appreciate your input, though. Thanks for the suggestion.
Must be a difference in our monitors.

Lovely portrait, Don. I am not seeing any green cast. Took it into PS and looked more magenta when Mike's suggestion was applied. I prefer it as is. Very nice IQ and exposure.

Great light, details, BG, comp. Did you have time to take some vertical with more of the chest and shoulder visible too?

Exposure: good
Detail: nice fine detail
Light: beautiful
Pose: profile of the face, no eye contact
Background: beautiful
Composition: I think the horizontal works here since the bird is looking into the frame
