    Default Cardinal in a Snowstorm

    Attached Images Attached Images

Taken during Xmas week from my kitchen window, one of at least 3 Cardinals that are currently coming to the feeders.

    Olympus OM-D E-M5, Panasonic 100-300 at 300mm. (600 equivalent), hand-held, 1/320, f/9.0, ISO auto at 1600, Center-wtd average metering.

Minor crop, color and curves adjustments, selective sharpening and nr in LR4 and PSE. Tried to keep detail in the reds.

As always, thanks for looking and any comments,

Happy New Year to all the wonderful photographers, teachers and critiquers on BPN.

    Richard

I like the comp and overall cold feel presented here. The red pops nicely against the snow. Hits of the green bush are also a nice bonus. I would run some noise reduction on the eye to give it a more glassy life like feeling to it.

Stunning contrast against the snow, I guess difficult conditions to pursue photography in, but you have managed to retain some nice detail in the feathers, but the eye does need some work on it I believe with a little noise reduction and maybe darken the pupil slightly

Excellent capture with good detail in the reds and snow. I like the environmental composition with the snowstorm - the shutter speed selected was perfect for the snow drifting down - making it appear in motion. Well done!

What a perfect image for a snowy day! Almost wishing I were photographing in snow and not sunny FL when I see this image. Lovely details. Great speed chosen tom make the most out of the falling snow. Nice details and your eyes is clear.

I've always felt cardinals were meant to be photographed in winter settings, and this shows why. Love the falling snow (excpet for the larger one in front of the bird's breast). Great "perch" and the subtle greensery is neat. Image is well focussed, but the fine detail is missing IMO, looks like a heavy crop or excessive noise or both. Still a very nice image, I like it lots!

Love it, great subject, the falling snow really makes it into a special shot. You have kept some nice detail in the snow on the ground, the little bit of green peeping out agains adds to it. If you have them coming to feeders - fill your boots and take advantage- I know I would.
