We spotted this fellow last spring and his was really lethargic as if he had just emerged that morning. But he was uncharacteristically approachable. So I waded into the water to get the light in my favor and shot away! D3s 300VRII 2.8 + 1.4TC 1/500 @ISO 400 -2/3.

I think this is an outstanding image, the DOF is optimal, I like the angle from which it is taken. I like the long seed head but I think I would crop the bottom say 5cm, this would still put the dragonfly on it's perch and portray the beautiful wings. A great start for the New Year.

    Hey Jon,
Yep....a beautiful image for sure. I'm with Jonathan on removing some off the bottom as well. Great image to start the new year!

Hi Jon. Very nicely done with good sharpness throughout, good exposure and lighting, pleasing colors, and a clean background! If this was mine, I would likely crop a little off the bottom - as others have suggested above - but that is a minor point and subjective - your image also works well, as presented.

Outstanding image. Would crop a tad off the bottom. Might bring down the brightness just a tad or burn the head just a little. Over all a terrific image.

Jon...another vote for cropping the bottom just a bit and possibly burning the perch to seperate it more from bg but as is its wonderful!

Really fantastic photograph. I'm in the minority, but I like the crop as it is.
