Lovely pastel tones here, nice and sharp and the lichens add to the interest.

Nice shot Jon. The exposure is perfect and shooting at f8 covered the birds body well.. The detail is right on. HA and the perch make for a nice picture. Well done.

    Perch and Bird look terrific.
I would run another round of NR on the BG.
This must be a decent sized crop for there to be noise at 640 with the D800.
I think maybe a bit looser crop with the bird higher in the frame would look nice.

HiJOn. OMG! For me, this is a perfect bird photograph. Gorgeous bird and pose. Killer matching BKGR. Lovely perch. Not a common species. Super sharp. Nice image design. Soft light. A collection of earth tones. In a word, luscious.

If there is noise in the BKGR, it does not bother me at all. If it bugs you you can try Filter/Blur/Surface Blur at 2/3/0 on the BKGR only. It will smooth it out completely. Tip courtesy of Denise Ippolito.

    Hi Dan,

This is 90%+ of full frame. I will try a little blur on it but I suspect the compression with this color is the source of the artifacts.

Hi Jon, love the soft light in this, which in turn has brought out the detail so well. Good DOF throughout, sharp, and the BG really complements the chickadee nicely. If this were mine, I would have moved him higher in the frame.

Excellent image on all counts Jon.
Fill light from the snow is evident to me too, and looks great.

Hi Jon, this is a lovely capture as the others have said. The lichen covered perched suits the bird perfectly also. Beautiful work!
