Hope everyone had a great Christmas and holiday season.
Spent a few days with my in-laws over the Christmas holiday in Long Island , New York.
Before I left I struck up a conversation with Grace Scalzo about some information on some possible spots to do some bird photography on Long Island . I only get to enjoy seeing the birds you guys get in the east and north on this forum.
Not only did she email me with some spots but she called me the day after Christmas and invited me to shoot with her at Morton WLR. We were just ahead of a storm front but got lucky and had a few hours of good light.
Grace's setup was awesome with birds taking seeds from our hands and posing on her assorted perches. Great time and conversation. Thanks again Grace!

Hi David, great light and IQ here, and you have brought out the detail and colours nicely - sharp too. I quite like this perch, as its weathered, and I like how its leaning over. This in turn has 'forced' the nuthatch to lean forward too. Great BG.

Congrats on your first nuthatch, and one of best IMHO.

nice pose and details, light was great too! I just wish for a smaller more "natural" perch. There is some noise in the BG.

    well done

Sorry, forgot to remove the noise. Not used to shooting at higher ISOs. Cant change the perch but I like it because it is weathered and its leaning forward.

David, isn't it nice when your first capture of a species is this good! Wonderfully done all around. Just wish for a smaller perch, but otherwise wouldn't change a thing!

I like both shots very much but I get the impression the latter is slightly over sharpened. I think the colours and the pose are pretty much ideal to show this little bird to optimum effect. A very pleasing shot indeed.

Excellent picture, David. The repost appears sharper after you removed the noise. It might not have to do anything with the bird as i assumeyou used NR on the background only.
I like the pose, sharpness and the matching background. The perch is good for this species IMO.

I think the lighting, details, and pose are excellent. The NR was a big help as well.

Great color scheme. The nuthatch looks saaaweet...still, would not mind a bit of head turn
towards us. To me, the perch looks quite natural. It looks like just the sort of place a
nuthatch would look for to hold a seed before it whacks it open...or just a nice nook
and cranny type place to store a seed for later. I've seen this species on this type of
perch "naturally" many times Now it certainly is not a sexy lichen covered dainty perch, but it is never the less.... natural
