Default Great Grey in the Snow

Hello everyone I hope everyone had a good Christmas. During the past week I ventured up north to Algonquin park and I was not disappointed seeing new spices each of the 3 days. The highlight was seeing two Great Grey owls at the same time and a black backed woodpecker both very rare at least in my neck of the woods, I guess I was good this year lol

This is a full-frame shot and I hardly touched it other then the normal things, contrast and sharpening.
I decided to leave this one large and not go for the tighter crop because I liked the snow and because I have many other shots that will work better tighter.

This was my first time shooting in the snow and man it was hard my af kept getting fooled.

Beautifully done Corey. The snow adds so much to the mood of the image- good you persevered with the AF! I love the dark tones with the eyes as highlights. Nice and sharp. I tried a tighter crop from the right and left and it worked well- give it a go.

Could you provide the technical details of the image.

Hi Corey, lovely wintery mood here, and love the alert stare and leaning pose of the owl. The falling snow adds so much to the overall image, together how it has piled onto the perch. Yes to sharp, detail shows through nicely, and those eyes pop so well. I feel the comp works well as is. Well captured.

A good decision I think, I like the composition and the pose, the all important eyes are good and sharp.

    Just beautiful. My dream shot!
I have never seen one in real life but I wonder if there is a slight magenta cast?

    Corey:

Well captured, and I like the comp as is(because of the snow), his pose, leaning into the frame,is very good.

Look forward to more from your outing.

    Cheers

I don't have anything new to add to the comments above, but wanted to congratulate you on a terrific shot.

Nothing to add! It's a great shot: the flurrying environment, the snow-covered perch, the owl's stare, and the sharp details.
