    Default Wave running

Full frame horizontal. Cropped to pano for comp. Not quite enough SS to render this tack sharp. Created near the end of good light and worked with what I had. Most of the long tails were quite far off so I was using my 2x. This one popped up quite close and decided to take off, no time to remove the 2x . I like the energy and the take off, so thought I'd share it with you. One thing I learned in 2012 is that some photos, while not perfect in one way or another, can still be enjoyed, despite their flaws. (This is not to say that I won't keep on trying to improve). Just enjoying the moment.

This will be my last post for 2012 and I thank each and every one of you who has taken the time to comment on my images and who have posted your own. I have learned a ton and had lots of fun. All my best to you for good picture making in 2013.

very cool, the pose is very dynamic and the splash adds to the story. nice crop too, I'd tone down the highlights a bit

Great dynamic capture. You got the eye, good wing position, the signature long tail, and great splash. I only wish you had a little room to the left for an even wider pano. Have a terrific New Year, Grace!

Great image and light and terrific dynamism! It seems sharp to me. Is there room for a modest canvas extension to the left?

Sharp enough for me. Nice to see that tail in the splash.
I like the photo a lot.

    Wonderful shot.
I really like the take off pose, very nice light, and love teh splash.
Do wish for a tad more up front, but still a great shot.
    Very well done.

Terrific capture, Grace. The comp you chose works great. At first I thought maybe some off of the bottom, but on second thought, like it as is. The splash is super, as is your angle and that wave really works too.

Nice action captured with lots to like. The tail in the splash and the colors of this unique duck are great. Like the pano crop too. Maybe a little off the back and add it to the front. Looks pretty sharp over in California :) Thanks again....

Hi Grace, great forward wing position, and love the determined take off pose with the flying splash. I do like how all of this has been captured on the crest of the wave.

Wishing you all the very best for 2013.

    Hi Grace,
I like this a lot! Great dynamic wing forward position and love the fact that you got the tail up and the feet are visible. Great title as well.
I might add 5-10% more canvas on the right (with your skills that should be easy!)

Grace, what a great catch. I love all the action and the water movement and splashing and running legs all coming together. I think you have just enough room up front. Great Job
